{New Hampshire Photography} Vacation Time
“Using a camera appeases the anxiety which the work-driven feel about not working when they are on vacation and supposed to be having fun. They have something to do that is like a friendly imitation of work: they can take pictures.” ~ Susan Sontag
It had been almost two years since we had gone back east for a visit to my husband’s small town of Gilford, New Hampshire, so we decided to make a vacation out of it, staying in a cute rustic cabin right on the beautiful (and HUGE!) Lake Winnipesaukee. We even lucked out and had mostly great, warm weather for the duration of our stay :-) Some of the highlights of the trip include our son running the bases of his Daddy’s high school baseball field, swims in the lake, roasting marshmallows at night, Z meeting his one and only cousin for the first time, the glorious sunsets, and the food.. oh my if you have never had a lobster roll you don’t know what you’re missing. Hope you enjoy a few visions of our trip :-)

Project 52 {Week 11} Color!
As you probably know, I am participating in a weekly photo project with about 20 other fabulous photographers from all around the world, from The Bloom Forum. Some of the past themes include DOF, nature, texture, and food.
This week is one of my favorites- Color! We had to have a little indoor fun this time around- since we got about 84 inches of rain this week (exaggerating a little, but isn’t that what we Californians do the best, exaggerate about the weather?) anyways, I decided since it was just the Z man and me, I would combine my favorite color (aqua) with his favorite thing (sugar). Oh who am I kidding I totally had to bribe him with the cupcakes ;-)
Please next go visit Colorado Springs Photographer Shannon Derbique for some colorful eye candy!

Birthday Giveaway {Winner}
First off, thank you to all the vendors who made this giveaway possible! You contributed the most amazing items it’s no wonder this giveaway was such a success, I must admit I am a teeny (okay maybe more than that) bit jealous of the winner of this HUGE prize package. Just think, now you have a lens rental to pick out, a new action set, a fabulous b&w preset collection, tons of great handcrafted items for your newborn shoots, heck you can even completely re-brand yourself with all the loot from the super talented designers that participated. And oh my, you even have to decide which backdrop and frame you are going to choose!.. lets not forget that 1 year Bloom forum membership- we can be Bloom buddies now ;-)
And to everyone who entered- thank you!!. I hope that you continue to “like” and shop with these fantastic small businesses. I know the last few years has been so hard on many of us financially- every dollar you spend helps stimulate the economy, which in turn brings more business back to us, for a brighter tomorrow. XOXOXOX Jen

CONGRATULATIONS AMANDA!! please contact me to get the ball rolling!
52 Project {Week 8} Light
Oh, dear light. As a photographer you can be our best friend, and our worst enemy. You can go from ahhh to ewwww in a matter of minutes. And (clients), when we drag you around the location of your photo session, half crazed look in our eyes, saying we need to “find the light” by golly we mean it. Good light makes your skin glow, eyes sparkle and colors become rich and vibrant. I think one of the hardest parts of becoming a great photographer is knowing how to find that “good light”. That being said- the 52 was a little difficult for me this week- not because I couldn’t find the light, but because I’ve been home with a sick little one for most of the week, which leaves me with little options of finding something to take a dang picture of. So I packed up my quarantined kid for a little jaunt over to his favorite place, a local park with lots of nice light and stones to throw. :-) Although these were not taken at the golden hour (about one hour before sunset), the light streaming through the trees is filtered and soft- allowing me to capture all the ahhhh’s and not too many ewwwws ;-)
Next up on the light trail, is Megan Wold, a North Dakota Portrait Photographer~ make sure you go visit her, then the next link, and so on. I know you will feel much lighter if you do.

{Santa Barbara Party Photographer} Innocent Wonder
This photo never fails to make me laugh, no matter how many times I see it. When I saw this week’s theme at I Heart Faces was “Innocent Wonder”, I knew this would be the one I had to use. I think I would give anything to know what this little guy was thinking at that moment, was it- “I wonder if she’s going to finish that?” or “Does she know she has ice cream dripping down her hand?” :-) Either way, his look paired with her “Don’t even think about it” expression makes this image one of my favorite candid shots ever. Be sure to check out all the other great entries this week at
