{Santa Barbara Child Photos} K Day

I may come back to this, and leave a post when I am less emotional, but for now… this will have to do XOXOX

{Family Photo Session} Bela Família

This darling family was here visiting Santa Barbara all the way from the east coast. They are originally from Brazil, but their careers with the Salvation Army took them first to Mozambique, Africa, then Massachusetts soon-to-be New York, where they will begin their 2 year formal academic training to become Christian Pastors. How amazing, right? Massachusetts I believe holds a special place in their hearts, since that’s where they arrived a family of 2, and are leaving a family of 3 :-) And if what they say about all Brazilian girls being beautiful is true- little “J” sure does have a good start, doesn’t she??

Please leave this gorgeous international family some BLOG LOVE, every comment you leave, earns them a print credit!

My Project 10 {August}

I was so tickled when I received an email from fellow Bloom Forum member and friend Breeze of Love Resembles asking if I would like to join her and 8 other photographers (from around the globe!) on a special new personal project called 10 on 10. It’s ten images, shared on the tenth of every month- just real life, as it happens. I’m excited not only because this is a perfect way to document those everyday moments we sometimes take for granted, but also because of the fantastic talent in this group of ladies- you MUST click through every week to see what everyone has to share. I think all of us have such unique styles you will be amazed and entertained. :-)

For my first ten on ten I thought it would be fun to give you a little glimpse of a week-long party here in Santa Barbara called Fiesta, or Old Spanish Days. Fiesta first stared in 1924, and is a celebration of the city’s rich cultural Spanish, Mexican, and North American heritage. When our good friends asked if we would like to join them on their “Amigos and Familia” float in the children’s parade, I of course said “yes!”, carrying on the tradition with my own son, since I also walked in the parade when I was little. We started with a night-before float decorating BBQ, with the annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast (gotta have all you can eat pancakes before the parade) the following morning. Then of course the big event- the Fiesta children’s parade.

Next up- is Breeze from Love Resembles, you will love her ethereal style!

Project 52 {Week 30} Time

This week for out project 52 the theme is time. I don’t think anything makes time go into high speed more than having a child. I had a session a few days ago with a six month old little baby who reminded me so much of my own son at that age- mellow, content and happy. We truly were blessed with such a good baby. Now years later as I sneak in his room at night to check on him, only to find him with his bedside lamp on, reading when he is supposed to be sleeping, do I realize just how quickly that time can pass us by. And to cherish every moment. Ironically it brings a twinge of nostalgia, considering I remember doing the exact same thing when I was little. I am so proud of our soon-to-be kindergartener, he was obsessed with the alphabet at 18 months, and had taught himself to read by age 3. My Mom and I had a weekly ritual when I was young, she would take me to the library every weekend, where I would check out the maximum number of books (8 at the time, I think), read them all that week, and repeat the following weekend. And now I am happy to carry on that tradition with my own son. So happy and excited to see what time brings to him <3

Next up in the circle, is my friend Jobrina Hofleit, a Goodyear, Arizona Photographer who has oodles of talent, be sure to pay her a visit, you will not be disappointed. :-)

{Santa Barbara Park and Beach Photo Session} Little Mr. D

So happy to share some tidbits from this session- I wanted to put this little peanut in my camera bag and sneak him home, he was just full of cuteness! His Mom and Dad had requested some photos at both a park and a beach setting, and with Summer in full swing I was happy to oblige. Part one took place at one of my favorite childhood parks (and just happened to be where they got married! how perfect is that?), and part two at our gorgeous Santa Barbara seaside. And little D was a champ the whole way through, never complained once, just kept flashing that toothless grin. :-)
